Trust God in Impossible Situations

“But Moses said to the people, ‘Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will perform for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again, ever. The Lord will fight for you, while you keep silent.’”
Exodus 14:13–14 (NASB)

I must admit, I’ve been struggling with a difficult situation. I feel a deep, emotional pull to intervene in something I believe I should act upon. My heart is heavy with concern for a dear friend whom I love deeply, and I’m gripped with fear for their well-being. At the same time, I know that stepping in could risk damaging our friendship—a thought that fills me with hesitation.

As I wrestled with this, a scripture came to mind, bringing clarity to my heart. I realized that the most powerful action I can take is to place this situation in God’s hands and pray for Him to work His miracles. Instead of acting out of my own emotions, I am trusting in His wisdom, love, and power to intervene in ways far greater than I ever could.

Like me, have you ever faced a situation that seemed impossible? A moment when fear crept in, and you couldn’t see a way forward? In such times, God’s word in Exodus 14:13–14 speaks directly to our hearts: “Do not fear…The Lord will fight for you.”

The Israelites stood at the edge of the Red Sea, trapped between a vast body of water and Pharaoh’s advancing army. They had no weapons, no escape, and no hope—except for God. Moses’ words remind them (and us) that when we face impossible situations, God is not just present—He is working on our behalf.

Fear is often our first response to overwhelming circumstances. Like the Israelites, we can feel paralyzed, focusing on what’s against us instead of Who is for us. But Moses begins with a command: “Do not fear.” This isn’t a denial of the problem—it’s an invitation to trust in God’s power and faithfulness.

Moses doesn’t tell the people to fight or flee—he tells them to stand still and watch God’s salvation. This feels counterintuitive, but it’s a reminder that some battles are not ours to fight. Instead, we are called to stand in faith and witness God’s power at work.

The Message (MSG) is not a traditional Bible translation, but rather paraphrases the Bible – but I love how it presents Exodus 14:14:

“God will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep your mouths shut!” [MSG]

In other words, stand silently, in faith, and praise God for the salvation He provides.

God doesn’t ask the Israelites to defend themselves; He promises to fight for them. This assurance shifts the focus from human limitations to divine sovereignty. The same God who parted the Red Sea for Israel is fighting your battles today—whether they are physical, emotional, or spiritual.

When God delivers, He delivers completely. Moses assures the Israelites that the Egyptians—their oppressors—will never trouble them again. This reflects God’s ability to not only rescue us but also to eliminate the source of our fear and bondage.

The story of Exodus 14:13–14 is a testament to God’s faithfulness in impossible situations. When we face our own Red Seas, we can take comfort in knowing that the same God who fought for Israel fights for us. He calls us to let go of fear, be still, and trust in His power to deliver.
